The Golden Bay Hotel is just 28 kilometers east of Heraklion. It is a green oasis with a magnificent view of the bay of Malia. The lively villages of Malia and Stalis, two of the most beautiful and historical destinations in Crete, are just a few minutes away. 

  • Get on the National Road in the direction of Agios Nikolaos, going away from the city of Heraklion.
  • Continue on this road for approximately 28 kms passing the towns of "Hersonissos".
  • On approaching the town of Malia you will come to a set of traffic lights.
  • Turn left at the traffic lights and then make a rightThe Golden Bay Hotel is approximately 900m on the right.

The city of Malia is situated along the northern coast of Crete, Greece’s biggest and most southern island. Since 1998 coastal villages Malia and Stalis plus their mountain counterparts Krassi and Mohos have formed one municipality of which Malia holds the administrative seat. It covers a surface area of 6,720 acres and has a population of 6,210.
 
Economic Profile
 
Agriculture occupies an important place in Malia’s economic profile with olive oil, potatoes, bananas and vegetables taking up the lion’s share of the rural produce. However, it is only secondary to the tourism sector, which is the greatest contributor to Malia’s economy.
 
Birthplace of Civilization
 
Remains of a unique palace are evidence of the glorious Minoan civilization that flourished here 4,000 years ago and that turned Malia into an important trade and mercantile center with substantial political and economic power.
 
Botanical Paradise
 
Located on a crossroad between Europe, Asia and Africa, Crete counts about 1,800 species of flora. Britain – 30 times the size of Crete – counts 1,550. Of these species about 160 are endemic only to Crete; a respectable percentage compared to Britain’s mere 16 species.
